Community Improvement Projects

2019 - Held a rummage sale to raise funds to assist with the design & renovation of a multipurpose room at the Ottawa Co. Family Advocacy Center
2018 - Conducted Cinco de Mayo fundraiser to raise matching funds to support a women's recovery facility
2017 - Teamed up with the "No Name" 5k Run/Walk to raise funds for Light House Sober Living
2016 - Operation Honor & Pride 5k run/walk to support veterans and scholarships for veterans’ children
2014 - Conducted POP-UP TALENT night to support Pop-Up Adventure Play, a play-based initiative to build problem-solving skills in children
2013 - Develop Lighthouse Project steering committee to pursue a supportive environment for men leaving incarceration. Welcome Doors of Ottawa County promoted festive miniature doors within businesses to encourage visitors to explore the County.
2012 - Advocate for Foster Care promoted the need for foster parents & collected items for personal care totes for kids entering foster care. Ottawa County’s Best Kept Secrets was a newspaper campaign to promote positive things in our community.
2011 - Taste of Ottawa County business showcase & scholarships to high school seniors built on the Live Here, Buy Here campaign
2010 - Live Here, Buy Here promotional campaign and business showcase to promote the importance of buying locally
2009 - Conduct Take Back the Night public awareness march and rally to highlight the impact of domestic violence
2008 - Conduct Red Horse Rocks Ottawa County interactive teen leadership event
2007 - Develop a steering committee to establish Joyful Connections, a visitation & exchange facility for non-custodial parents & children
2006 - Establish My Own Things suitcase project for children entering foster care. Assist Ottawa Co. Historical Society’s public unveiling of the Oral History Project & Spring clean-up at the Keeper's House
2005 - Create a structure for a LOC Alumni Association. Assist with Ottawa Co. Humane Society Fundraising
2004 - Raise funds to establish a LOC Endowment Fund
2003 - Establish the Telecare Network with Red Cross
2002 - Plan and Conduct a Youth Leadership Retreat
2001 - Establish a Volunteer Center. Create a Helping Hands Fund with Salvation Army

This project is intended to encourage participants to accept leadership positions and actively pursue community involvement opportunities within Ottawa County. The class works as a team in designing, implementing and presenting a community improvement project that will positively impact Ottawa County. The team present the project at the graduation dinner.
